Simple. First, you need Quinn 3.3 or higher or the Quinn Standalone Server (the latest versions can be downloaded here). Then follow these steps:
- In Quinn (or the Standalone Server), choose Quinn > Preferences…, and click Server in the toolbar.
- Activate the “Announce server on the Quinn website” checkbox.
- Enter a name to identify the server.
- You can also enter a short descriptive text, for example, the server’s location.
- Start your server.
Even simpler: Click the Connect button next to it. (You must have Quinn 3.3 or higher for this to work.)
You can also connect as a moderator, if the server permits it and you got the right password. But that’s a bit more complicated:
- Choose a server from the list, select its IP address, and copy it to the clipboard.
- Launch Quinn and click Connect in the toolbar. Click “Enter IP Address ….”
- Paste the IP address into the text field.
- Activate the checkbox labeled “Connect as Moderator.”
- Click Connect. Quinn will then ask you for the moderator password.
You must make sure that the computer hosting your Quinn server is available to the Internet on TCP ports 31459 thru 31463.
To allow access from behind a router, you must setup port forwarding for the above mentioned ports to your computer within your own network.
We cannot provide more detailed information about this as the process is different for every router.
For more information, see Configuring your firewall for running a Quinn server in Quinn’s help.
If you are still having trouble, please visit the forum and ask for help.
Due to changes and newly added features, not all Quinn versions are compatible to each other.
For the servers listed here, this means: Clients running Quinn 3.3.x can only connect to 3.3.x servers.
Clients running Quinn 3.4 or later can only connect to 3.4 or later servers.
To find more information, please open the help in Quinn 3.4 or later and search for “compatibility.”
