ASCII/edit is an editor for tables, diagrams, or simple graphics made of ASCII characters in a fixed-width font. It lets you arrange text on a page, as with a layout software; align and indent paragraphs, like in a word processor; and add lines or rectangles, as in a drawing application. The output, however, is pure ASCII text, which you can include in e-mails, newsgroups, or technical documentation. ASCII/edit is also extremely useful for software developers, who can use it to create explaining sketches to include in source code files.

ASCII/edit features

Create solid boxes, frames, lines, arrows and text boxes made of ASCII characters—simply by drag and drop.
Move, resize, duplicate, group and flip objects just like in a drawing app.
Use text editing features like in a word processor: Indent paragraphs, right-align or center text.
When done, simply copy your drawings and paste them in any plain-text editor.
Includes many special text editing goodies: Rewrap hard-wrapped text, Wrap by word or characters, Auto-expand tabs to spaces, Overtype mode, Reverse paragraphs or characters, Remove gremlins & more. All these commands also work on multiple, non-contiguous selections.
Written entirely in Cocoa—which means full support of Unicode, the Services menu, and Mac OS X’s spell checker.
Export text in virtually any possible encoding.
